Figural Welsh Dragon / Chinese Dragon andirons.
Probably mid 19th century. If you have Welsh or Chinese connections then these are worth considering. Large and heavy cast brass winged dragon andirons, looking as good from the back as they do from the front. 20"H x 16"W x 4.5"D without the billet bars. With the bars, the depth is 23". Update: These terrific, or terrifying, creatures have now been joined by a pair of substantial blacksmith crafted billet bars, capable of supporting the heaviest of grates. The brass has been stove lacquered in the past - hence the slightly dull appearance! Thought you might like to see what they look like with a grate. The one shown has a minimum width of 38" and a maximum width of 43". Included in the sale. Some talented interior designer could create a unique pair of table lights or they could easily be adapted to function as dramatic supports for a wood-burning stove. £895. Once polished they will look like a million dollars! New cast iron backplate with dragon design to the centre 22" x 18" x 1" £65. An absolute steel !!! [email protected] DERBY (01332) 840256 U.K. |
